Definition

The Specular Coefficient that determines how shiny a color is to appear based on the angle between lines from the observer to the colored object to the light source.

Example

  1. Consider an Out-the-Window (OTW) Color Table, whose entries are intended for use in representing metallic surfaces. Each Primitive Color in the table is defined by a Specular Color and an Ambient Color.

    Depending on the angles between the observer, the metallic surface, and the light source, the shininess of each Specular Color will vary. Hence, each Specular Color in the table is given a Color Shininess component, if the corresponding metal is sufficiently reflective.
