Rule Name: Elaboration of Classification Data

Definition

For a Property Value component of a Base Classification Data, the attribute_code field must be set to a EAC code that is designated as "classification-related".

Rationale

Some ECCs require other elaboration by a EAC, so some Base Classification Data require elaboration by a Property Value. The optional Property Value component of Base Classification Data is intended to express such elaboration.

Example

1. A Point Feature classified (via a Classification Data) as EDCS_CC_BUILDING usually requires a Property Value for EDCS_AC_BUILDING_FUNCTION_CATEGORY to better classify the Point Feature.

FAQs

Why not just attach the Property Value to the Classification Data's aggregate?

A Property Value attached to a Classification Data's aggregate applies directly to the aggregate, rather than the Classification Data itself. Also, such a method of elaborating Classification Data could not be applied to Feature Classification Data or Geometry Classification Data.
